Garmin heart rate

I can't get the % HR max (heart rate max) to work on my Garmin Edge 500. I have just put a new battery in the heart rate monitor, my max heart rate is recorded, does anyone have any ideas?

Have you set your Max HR in the Garmin unit ?

I would guess ( not read the instructions) that you have to set the max / min HR values to get a %age value out !!!!
