My understanding is that a Garmin 605 comes with a very basic map installed. Is this the case and if it is where can I get a copy of it? I got my garmin second hand and it already had an open streets map installed. I've installed another open streets map but the unit keeps getting me lost. It tells me to turn off roads that I know are going where I want to go. It also ignores routes that I draw on ridewithgps.

Any ideas welcome.....

This is because you are a human, it is electronic and thinks it knows better.... if for instance you go through a small path between two streets it will reroute you round the roads even if you have selected the "off road" option.

Turn off the automatic route recalculation and the issue is resolved. If you get lost then you can always turn it back on.

As for the maps - it is an SD card available from Garmin or the outlets and will depend on what you want.

To be honest if you are on a bike then the OSM cyclemap is far better as the original "City Navigator" doesn't recognise cycle routes and is not updateable.
