Garmin sensor compatibility

I have a couple of recumbents which have the standard Garmin combined sensor, but with the speed sensor tucked away as it does not reach a wheel

If I added the new speed sensor to the hub, would it work with this in place?

See if it just syncs with the cad sensor, if so it might.
