Now let me start by saying i'm not a technophobe, nor am i backwards when it come to gadgets but I have today updated the maps on my Nuvi......yes i said today.....it took 6 hrs!!
I have fast broadband......the update program needed taking off and reinstalling....then it took 4hrs!! to download the maps....then i had to choose uk and Ireland maps ...it seemd to download again....then it installed.......whooppee 6 bloody hours.....good job i did it today and didn't decide to do it tomorrow for an important journey into the unknown.....and it cost me £75 cos i thought it would be a good idea to get the lifetime update.........For a big company like Garmin i would have thought they had a better, user friendly interface for an update program. This is almost putting me off getting an Edge for the bike....is it the same for updating the maps on these?

Or is all this just me?

Sorry rant over...important journey tomorrow and i was sweating i was going to lose the use of my sat nav altogther:eek:

I updated my maps when I bought my 705, and the update (free) was 3.5gb (europe) - but was down pretty sharpish. Not bothered updating in the last 2 years though.

Last time I updated my Nuvi, I bought one year old mapping data on CD off ebay for £15. I believe it was genuine too, not just copied, and had to enter a registration code into my Garmin installer.

My car GPS is quite an old version, and you could buy a whole new device including the maps for £80 so there was no way I was going to pay £70 for just the maps. The swindlers. If only OpenStreetMap did postcodes grrr.

yes the first update is free within 90 days of purchase and i remember it didn't take too long.....my unit is 2 years old now hence reason for updating as i didn't want to get lost where i was going...
