I'm off to bed now. Going to Gdansk in the morning. Obviously going to Solidarity Centre, can anyone tell me any good places? Never been before. Good suggestions will be rewarded with a photo. Thanks, Dave.

You could go to the shipyards and see where my first ship was built. First ship, as in the first one I sailed on during my short (3 year) sea going career after leaving school. Joined Khorromshahr, Iran, September 78; left Kuwait March 79, after 2 round trips to Japan. Best job I ever had.....
P&O mv Stratheden, built Gdansk 1977. Her sister ships Strathesk, Strathewe, StrathElgin, Stratherrol, Strathettrick, were all built there too. Fine ships.

I recently went to Gdansk on business. Can't help you with what to go and see, I was only there very briefly, flew out Monday morning, did a bit of work, flew home Tuesday night.
I mention it because on the way out I had seat A1, I've never had seat A1 before and my first flight since Cilla Black died I get that seat, coincidence, I think not!

You could visit The Crane, the biggest crane in medieval Europe, and the Maritime Museum..

GrumpyGregry

Here for rides.
I was there for an overnight stay a few weeks ago visiting a service delivery centre belonging to an Indian heritage IT supplier.

Whole experience, apart from the people, was pretty underwhelming. I'd be in no hurry to go back. Other Baltic cities are available.

Well spotted. 300 ton capacity. We lifted a 292 ton generator in Keelung, Taiwan, with it, destined for one of the Gulf ports. Put a bit of a list on the ship when it took the weight off the dockside! Same again when discharging it.

I remember the Chief mate who was in charge of the operation cacking himself when discharging as he was worried about the ship righting itself when the load was put on the dockside, and thus dragging the generator into the side of the ship. It didn't happen.

AFAIK all the Strath "E" ships are now scrapped. They were sold off by P&O a long time ago, in the early 80's.

The first 5 were sold to IRISL, who due to US sanctions could not buy replacements hence they had a longer life than most other ships of that age, the Strathettrik was sold to Greeks who scrapped her at 21 years old, which makes me think there must have been a reason, as she would have been good for another decade.
