I'm off to bed now. Going to Gdansk in the morning. Obviously going to Solidarity Centre, can anyone tell me any good places? Never been before. Good suggestions will be rewarded with a photo. Thanks, Dave.
You could go to the shipyards and see where my first ship was built. First ship, as in the first one I sailed on during my short (3 year) sea going career after leaving school. Joined Khorromshahr, Iran, September 78; left Kuwait March 79, after 2 round trips to Japan. Best job I ever had.....I'm off to bed now. Going to Gdansk in the morning. P&O mv Stratheden, built Gdansk 1977. Her sister ships Strathesk, Strathewe, StrathElgin, Stratherrol, Strathettrick, were all built there too. Fine ships.

Well spotted. 300 ton capacity. We lifted a 292 ton generator in Keelung, Taiwan, with it, destined for one of the Gulf ports. Put a bit of a list on the ship when it took the weight off the dockside! Same again when discharging it.Oooh a Stulken heavy lift derrick !

I remember the Chief mate who was in charge of the operation cacking himself when discharging as he was worried about the ship righting itself when the load was put on the dockside, and thus dragging the generator into the side of the ship. It didn't happen.
AFAIK all the Strath "E" ships are now scrapped. They were sold off by P&O a long time ago, in the early 80's.![]()
