Hey all,

I'm in the process of repainting my Raleigh Mercury and i'm going to replace the brake and gear cables as their rusty and well basically awful. It's a road bike with drop handlebars and downtube shifters, the gears appear to be shimano SIS. I think i know which brake cables to get (with the pear shaped end) but not sure if i need specific gear cables?

Thanks,

Tom

The last brake cable I bought was double ended (mtb one and road the other) and I just cut off the one I don't need. Are gear cables the same:?:

I replaced the ones on a friends bike (also indexed downtube shifters) with standard shimano stainless steel gear cables.

If you want a pair of them Tomskii, I've some spares you can have for the cost of postage, just pm me - inner cables only though, I'm afraid.

Edit: And let me know if you need the ferrules for the ends of the cables too.
