Why are you in the incorrect lane?

Where am I going, and what's the correct lane for that?

Ah, no, that's the incorrect lane for me, as I'm going straight ahead along Vauxhall bridge road towards Victoria. I think it's better practice and safer to negotiate out to the second lane before the Grosvenor Road/Millbank intersection. Leaving it until after the Millbank or even the John Islip St junction is too late in my experience, although I have done it in the past when I've not been able to negotiate out earlier. It gets too busy and congested to safely negotiate across. The lane you recommend becomes a left turn only into Drummond Gate in perhaps 100 metres.

And why not? The very manner in which road users should use the road is dictated by what is written in the HC. I would thought that would be obvious bearing in mind that you drive for a living.

Indeed (and I know my way around it, too). But more and more often these days, there seems to be a trend for threads in commuting to descend into "rule 166 says this" "ah, but rule 186 says the other" and so forth, all on the basis of a 40 second clip of someone riding a bike in traffic. Anyone who wasn't actually there can't possibly know enough about the circumstances to state positively that the rider should have been following rule xyz of the HC, yet often we end up with pages and pages of - well, pointless nitpicking shoot - about various HC rules, often becoming quite heated in the process. The recently closed "blue mini" thread was a good example.

You did make me laugh on the hidden cameras, but no comment.

I take it you accept my point about why I've chosen the lane I'm in then?
