I'm gettting back to normal. After several weeks of being a fair weather cyclist I feel rejeuvinated. I got up early today to cycle to the sorting office to collect a parcel, so a little diversion of about 12 miles. It wasn't raining at 6.30am so I happily got washed and changed etc. Then the hail came. I would have, in my fair weather persona, thought "sod this, I'm taking the car". Thankfully I'd been too lazy to fill the car with petrol the night before. I suppose I could have got petrol before going to the sorting office, but that would have been too much of a chore and even more in the wrong direction to work than the sorting office is. So instead I thought "brilliant, just what I wanted. I'll have to put my boil in the bags on before going out". That was my old self before the wind came and turned me into a wussy. Anyway, by the time I'd got kitted out it had stopped hailing and I had a nice but cold cycle to the sorting office. It started drizzling just as I arrived, and this persisted until about the last 4 miles when it p*ssed down and I technically got drenched, although having waterproofs on I was really nice and dry (bar the sweat). I really enjoyed my ride despite getting wet. My only complaint is to do with my sealskin gloves. I'd totally forgotten how rubbish they are. It wasn't what I would call extremely cold this morning, and the rest of me was toasty warm. However my fingers were like ice. Usually my toes are also like ice in sympathy with the fingers but they were fine. I suspect the sealskins are extremely good at keeping the cold air trapped inside the glove, thus acting as a freezer. It took me miles and miles to get my hands feeling normal. I think it is time to drag my proper winter gloves out of the cupboard.

Well done Plax!!!

It does amuse me when you see all the peds shivering in bus stops, whilst we ride past toasty warm and happy. Oh, and not waiting for the bus either.

Rained this morning and I got soaked and was cold but I didn't find it a problem.I definitely think I have come out of a bad spell which seemed to start after I came back from Hong Kong last year and my arm swelling up.I reckon I was bitten/stung out there.

It has been horrid this morning (lucky for me I was having a lie in!). Next week I have nothing planned after work so I'm adamant I'm not going to wuss out with bad weather!

Well done Plax! I've been the same for the past couple of weeks and haven't cycled to work. I need to find my mojo. Hopefully it will return now that the wind has died down.

Bought waterproofs now,it probably won't rain for six months now.

It rained here, it must have been your fault! I rode to my dads this afternoon to drop of my xmas pressies (brilliantly he gave me some money and said buy what you want with this and bring it over for me to wrap for xmas, so I spent it on bike stuff from CRC ).

It was chuffin freezing, and I couldn't be bothered scraping the frozen hail off my car (snow in the mountains!) and then going to put petrol in it (this no petrol malarky is doing me wonders!) so I braved it on the bike. I actually left my overshoes on to keep my feet warm, and halfway through it started raining which made me feel colder, I had to stop and put my waterproof trousers on. Wasn't that heavy and stopped after about 6 miles so was ok. Really enjoyed it.

Weather is going to take a turn for the worse tomorrow i.e. my arch enemy the wind is going to return with gusts of up to 40mph according to the Met Office. Yippe, supposed to have a CTC ride tomorrow and I was going to cycle the 23 miles there, have a pootle round with them and cycle the 23 miles back to try and get my mileage back up. Don't think I'll be too keen if it's p*ssing it down and blowing a gale . I so don't want to actually get the car out.
