.. other motorists.. and other musings.

These days the motoring miles are up due to chauffeuring the incapacitated MrW about. The seeming increase in manners by motorised road users infuriates me. Yesterday, I was driving through Ipswich. There were a couple of cyclists in front of me. The lanes were narrow in places, the junctions frequent, the traffic busy. So I held back from overtaking the cyclists until it was safe to do so. Cue some idiot female driver in the car behind me, sitting on my tail, flashing her headlights at me and giving me the finger and making gestures with her hands to make it perfectly clear she thought I should be making road pizza of the cyclists in front in order to get out of her way and let her progress - the the next set of red lights... I just hope the cyclists appreciate I was taking the flak from a driver who would have had no qualms about flattening them..

Then out in the wilds of Essex country lanes... narrow, twisting - from the bend in front appears man with dick growing out of the top of his head driv ing some sort of 4x4 thing, at such a speed that he appears coming round the bend on my side of the road and I am literally forced to drive into the hedge at the side to avoid being shunted by him. Luckily at the speed I was doing - no damage. The idiot, as he zoomed by, still partially on my side of the road must have been doing over 50mph on a narrow (single car width), winding country lane.

In Cambridge the other day, MrW & I were sat in a cafe having a cuppa. In march Mr LOUD I AM IMPORTANT, TAKE NOTICE, and his female partner who was just the same, who then plonk themselves down next to MrW & I, literally shoving us along as they made themselves comfortable. There were plenty of seats where they didn't have to make themselves so *obvious* but no... Anyhow, MrW & soon finished, so I made for the car, carrying all the heavy stuff, so MrW could cope on his crutches. As I get to the car, I see that alongside in the next two bays, is parked one of those large BMW 4x4 things - taking up the two bays as he is parked right down the middle line of said two bays. My first thought was, "I wouldn't be surprised if that was Mr & Mrs LOUD's vehicle" Lo and behold - as MrW was walking to the car, who was it striding past him in a very LOUD manner and made straight for the selfishly parked BMW-thing? Why yes, it was Mr & Mrs LOUD. The stereotype held true on this occasion.

The above is in the space of just over 24 hours. I despair. Folk really do seem to be getting more selfish and inconsiderate.

Oh I know I'm spending too much time in the car, but I have no option. MrW is self-employed - no such thing as sick pay. No workee, no money! Plus, I don't mind the driving really - it's only when the selfish twunts try to rule the road (and elsewhere..) it can get to me a tad. Especially when the two out three of the most recent examples are done by twunts in 4x4s... Cup of tea & a biscuit much appreciated - off to tea thread to visit the tearoom before another chauffeur-session starts

Take it easy Waffly. Remember 99% of people are not like that. Only humour gives you perspective in these situations. That and some gentle and subtle P taking.

What irks me with other drivers behaviour to others is when the car in front is waiting patiently for green rather than dangerously RLJ and cars behind start sounding their horn in anticipation that the light is about to go to green, they're not actually green yet ;).

At the risk of sounding like an old git I find that good manners are getting to be as rare as the proverbial compared to those I have found in other countries. Anecdotal evidence, I know, but The manners of all ages on the continent, in particular, seem superior to those over here

One of my bug bears is how people these days seem to assume the right to drive onto the wrong side of the road because of parked cars on their side. Ridingalong the other day I had some moron half way into my lane as he was passing parked cars in his way...I refuded to move over and simply sat still in my lane (we were in traffic and doing about 5mph max). He could not get through. But because I would not let him have his god given assumed right to my side of the road he wound down his window and let go with a barrge of verbal abuse. I just laughed at him which seemed to piss him off even more.

Then there is the idiot driver who sticks his/her nose out into the road to force traffic to stop to let them out...car drivers dont suffer...but on a bike I am regularly forced to move out into the middle of the road and risk being hit from behind...I always gesture for them to move back in which is always met with the traditional one fingered essex salute.

I HATE car drivers.
