Hi all, I am just getting back in to the cycling game and thusly have been searching craigslist and working with various bike shops in my area to find a good match. The question we keep coming back to is for the price, and being that I haven't seriously cycled in a few years, should I opt for a much more advanced bike, used, or an entry level bike for an obviously much lower price?
Initially, I will use the bike to commute approximately 12 miles to and 12 miles back from work, eventually working in to more of a competitive regiment. I dont want to have more than 1 bike if I can help it either. That said, I've got fixed gear bikes and high performance bikes on my short list...
Can you guys chime in and let me know what you think? The Giant post is below. It looks like it is a 06'

Also, here is a fixed gear belt driven TREK that is in the area for $400

I've also found a miyata, a 91 cannondale sc800 and a trek earl. All are under $400, and offer some alure. Japanese styling? Vintage cannondale? A trek earl thats badged to high hell with Goose Island 312 stickers? OR, a $1500 Giant...
Thanks in advance for your time!
