Further to my last thread about a cyclocross as a 'do it all' bike, a visit to my LBS resulted in this bike

being offered with a good discount. I have room for negotiation and believe I could get some minor upgrades if required. I am test riding at the weekend.
A few concerns -
Brakes - Have heard bad things about tektro brakes but apparently switching out the brake blocks is enough?
No carbon fork - Is the aluminium fork going to be uncomfortable? I cycle some very dubious surfaces on towpaths.
Shimano sora - I am used to 105 on my road bike. Is there going to be such a noticeable difference? There are no thumb clickers, I just mean ease and smoothness of shifting etc
Compact - My road bike is a triple, will I struggle with a compact?
Problem is I really want this beast
