Greater Glasgow’s Road Policing and Community officers will be out next week with Go Safe Glasgow keeping cyclists safe #keepingpeoplesafe

There were two motorcycle cops this morning at Paisley Road Toll issuing a fixed penalty to a cyclist for jumping the red light. Any Glasgow commuters spotted them elsewhere?

Seemingly the big polis boss is a bit narked about the number of road deaths up here in civilisation.

He maybe shouldn't have got rid of lots of the traffic cars then - should he? After all, it's very difficult for a camera to spot someone driving carelessly or dangerously.

But they do !

All we need to do is heed the messsage and stop minimising how important speeding is

A motorist with a speeding fine is twice as likely to be involved in an "injury accident" within the next twelve months that na driver without

Speeding is unequivocally linked with other "high risk" driving such as poor overtakes, tailgating, jumping lights and failing to stop at junctions

I take your point entirely, but, unfortunately, speeding cameras are quite easy to avoid, (or modify behaviour near)whereas patrols less so.

I don't have an issue with cameras or nailing speeders, but the instances where I've been put at risk have tended to be on roads where there aren't cameras. My main concern these days is lack of attention, phone, text, and just plain aggressive driving. I think those are hard for cameras to identify, but a set of eyes in a car maybe would..

Also, a camera can't explain why a particular activity is dangerous. A plod can.

I was hoping this title meant that Glasgow poleese were now giving cyclists poleese escorts ……………….

Well the cyclist did deserve it.

Well, that's hardly the point, is it? Police resources are limited; wouldn't it be better to focus on what might actually save lives. I dare say they are responding to the voices in the communities complaining about cyclist running red lights, rather than examining the figures and seeing if that's how cyclists are dying.

TFL for example, won't put in an enforcement camera - even if they know it will capture a lot of law breakers - unless there is a history of people being Killed or Seriously Injured (KSI), yet my local police - also in London - took action on pavement cycling a few years ago on a month with a serious of serious road accidents.

Apologies to Glasgow police if there have been RLJ related fatalities, but I really doubt it.

The cops were positioned to catch drivers abusing the ASL. The cyclist jumped the red, almost striking a pedestrian who was on the crossing, so I see no problem in fining him for stupidity and poor observation.

Unfortunately we live in a world where "marketing" wins over common sense.

Which means we are all a bit thick, really

I saw on the telly today that the recent terror warnings ,showing commuters how to deal with a potential terror strike by hiding or running away....were not a response to any increased terror threat.....no no no...it's perfectly safe out there, just keep spending lots of Xmas lolly and we'll all be just fine.....no these "statements" are just part of "terrorism awareness week"

Ah, that's alright then.
