Hi guys,

A quick hello and a bit of background.

I'm 41 years old. I was into cycling 10-15 years ago and loved it. I moved away from home, changed jobs and the cycling took a back seat and eventually disappeared altogether.

Fast forward to the summer just gone, weighing almost exactly 20 stone I walked into a bike shop and with no real knowledge of current tech bought an entry level aluminium road bike for £440

Between June and September I went out religiously every day and managed to lose a stone and improve my fitness no end. Things were going great.

In September, my beautiful baby girl, Mia was born. Unfortunately, due to complications, my partner was very ill and I turned into a full time dad and a full time carer overnight. Obviously this left no time for cycling so I had over a month off.

Travelling back and forth to the hospital and eating convenience food saw me put my weight back on and a bit more on top.

It took almost 2 months for my partner to be well enough to look after Mia at all and I didn't get back on the bike until early November.

I really went for it, increasing my distances to between 20-30 a day and by the year end I had covered 2200 miles in what was effectively 5 months.

I've been continuing this up to today and been getting out almost every day (but work doesn't always allow) and this morning I had lost 1.5 stone.

I'm loving everything about cycling, I love getting out, pushing myself and enjoying the ride.

Thanks for letting me participate.

Kev.

Welcome to the forum Kev. I hope your partner and the baby are now OK and getting back into good health. If you can keep up with the cycling as well then losing weight may not be quick but it should be steady.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Mia amazes me every day and after a long recovery my partner, Anne, is perfect once again. My family is my world.

I just realised I didn't mention much about the cycling. As said I do around 20 to 30 a day when work and family life permit (I work permanent nights so it can be difficult).

Also, purely as a learning exercise, I'm beginning my first bike build this week, providing everything turns up, so there will likely be some questions arising :-)

I also forgot to mention that I changed bikes in November to a better equipped and slightly racier model and I've so far put about 1000 miles on it.

My greatest cycling foe at the moment is the relentless wind we seem to be getting. I don't mind the rain at all.

If anyone wants to look at my stats, they are here.

Thanks again,
