Awful looking crash in todays Moto GP took his life sadly.

He was a proper racer - a bit too much of one for some of his fellow riders.

Marco Simoncelli died after a horrific accident in MotoGP in Sepang this morning. Marco lost the back end and, unusually, the bike's line tightened pulling him back across the traffic. Edwards and Rossi went from being observers to participants and, in the middle of it all, Marco's helmet was knocked off.

Sadly, one of the brightest stars and one of the biggest personalities.

RIP Marco a likeable and talented rider, horrendous accident, Colin Edwards had no chance of avoiding the fallen rider, the question must be asked, why did his helmet come off?

Just seen the footage - horrific. I have no idea why Simoncelli lost control nor why his helmet came off but that was sickening. He was a colourful character (and one must mention that his style was not to everyone's liking) but his death is a loss; to his family, to his friends and to MotoGP.

I've got to spare a thought for Edwards and Rossi too. What can they be feeling?

+1 on that, Colin Edwards especially must be feeling terrible, even though there was nothing he could do at the time.

RIP

I had the race on the TV live but was fiddling around doing small jobs in the apartment so fortunately did not see the crash. What a sad day for all of his family and friends!
