For sale - very lightly used Campagnolo Shamal (black) wheelset circa 2001.

9/10spd - 700c Clinchers with Campagnolo freehub.

These represent Campagnolo's last try at deep section alloy rimmed wheelsets. So you get the benefit of reasonably deep (41mm) rims at the cost of a 900g front and 1100g rear.

Cosmetically there is one minor scrape otherwise they look great.

The braking surface is hardly worn.

The hubs (top of the range Record class)are smooth and the wheels are true.

I'm sure I posted this question last night but it seems to have gone AWOL.

Anyway.........would these nice wheels take an eight speed cassette ?

After a bit of Googling around just to confirm my first thoughts, it would seem that

1. The 9/10 spd freehub has deeper splines than the 8 spd but is the same diameter.

2. 8spd sprockets will in theory fit but there will be a gap due to the deeper spline so may not be too secure.

3. The freehubs are the same width so a 9spd cassette (minus one sprocket) mixed with 8spd spacers should work.

You would need a Mirage or early Veloce 9 spd cassette with individual sprockets and I probably have one lurking around somewhere.
