Looking to get some tights from santa for this winter - my usual winter combo of Tudor Sports 3/4s and long socks just doesn't cut it in the wet (they are rarely dry by home time) and my commutes rarely long enough now to warrant regular use of the waterproof overtrous.

Can't ask the family for the expensive stuff, so have been looking at the sub-£50 categories.

It seems leaving out the chamois opens a great deal of cheaper options, and I already have a supply of padded undershorts so that's not really a big deal. And I should eventually break in the Brooks Swallow I bought last month.

However, I do have some more expensive gear - a touch of Assos and Rapha here and there, and having started out my cycling resurgence a few years back in cheapo gear I appreciate the advantages of the fancier stuff. So might I be MUCH better off asking for something else, or cash, and splashing out on something in the £50-80+ range? Or are there actually really quite decent longs to be found in the budget arena?

Also, what are the advantages of bibs?

I bought some SPEG bib tights for about £35. Can't recall where from, try googling. Excellent.

Bibs are preffered for me.
My dhb ones have been good.
Ron hill bikesters as an alternative over shorts, cheap n cheerfull.
Decathlon?

I thought Bikesters were no more, hurrah if they're back in production as I was down to my last pair.

ps I didn't 'bold' the extra l as it's not required and anyway I wouldn't be rude and point out your error on a public forum.

+1 For the Wiggle DHB ones.
I have the Pace ones for milder winter days, as they're thinner than the Roubaix ones (not being a soft shandy swilling southern jessie).

They look good, I'm struggling to find sizing info though. If I get bibs that are too small I'll look like someone is trying to force blancmange through a cheesecloth.
Castelli sizing is a little on the small size, so always go one bigger. At 6ft 3 I'm usually an XL in bib longs but bought a pair of XXL Castelli ones and they fit perfectly.
