I drove through Bradford recently, Buses are the least of your worries based on the local populations driving habits !

Had a Yoof in an Impreza trying to goad me into racing, when I didnt bite he proceeded to show me how fast he was by tearing off and driving like a tit.

Would have to agree with J4CKO. The buses in Bradford are less of a worry than private cars.

Given that there is a set of lights every 100yards or so in the city centre how would it improve journey time. Many buses already have a tracking device fitted(text bus stop number to a number to get the time of next bus), so whats the real reason behind the box.

So buses don't run outside the city centre? I was reading about this on a bus whose driver drove up to a line of traffic stopped at a set of lights and braked pretty hard at almost the last minute. The lights then changed immediately after he'd come to a halt.

If he'd simply taken his foot off the accelerator he would have rolled up
towards the back of the queue and been able to accelerate in pretty much the same gear, saving fuel and passengers from being jerked around

High diesel prices seem to me to be a pretty good reason. Smooth driving can save upwards of 5% in fuel usage and increases passengers' comfort. The tracking device only tells time/position, not how the bus is being driven.

Speaking to a driver this afternoon & it seems there are mixed views on these. They can monitor every action the driver takes. Brakes being applied, engine revs, signalling. Basically anything that is "tied" into the buses electrical system.
It is being viewed as another way of following the drivers. But it can also be used, with the cameras(inboard & outboard) as evidence in any collision.

I never said that the buses didn't run outside of the city centre. But the majority of services start & end there. Which is why I mentioned the traffic light situation.

How'd you like every action that you made at work "monitored"? "Spied upon" I call it:angry: Tracking is one thing but this is horrible, I would like to think the managers/group tossers/regional arses are also enjoying working under similar schemes to enable their performances to be improved, resulting in lower running costs?

I can only see this scheme resulting in further stress for the drivers, as if they were not stressed out enough already:angry:
