In the context of accounting and stock control, audit is a vital and valuable tool. The audit commission has always been a waste of money and good riddance I say.
In my own professional field of expertise, I have seen audit commission reports which have been poorly researched, inaccurate, and which have not resulted in any shift of policy or strategic planning. And I always wondered, who audits the audit commission? Spending money on looking at ways of saving money seems bizarre to me, when most professional organisations are already orientated to providing value for money, and efficiency, based on the knowledge and expertise of those who, especially in the NHS, are best equipped to understand the business at hand.
It's like asking someone who has never ridden or built a bicycle, or known anyone who has, how cycling can be made 'better'.

The above statement is made on the understanding that I currently have post dental surgery pain and side effects of medication. And I now feel quite a bit better.
