Got tipped in socks

Was wine waiting at a sport's found raising dinner last night, one of the raffle prices was socks.
The winner did not want them, left me them as a tip.
My colleagues were mystified by my happiness: the socks are long thin merino wool skying softies in bright pink and black pattern by a well known brand.
Ideal for winter cycling, worth at least a tenner, innit?

I thought you'd been lobbed into a bunch of socks at first. I wondered briefly if they were clean socks or dirty socks and where you'd find enough socks to tip someone into.
