Great example of patient driving

Errrr.....
Have a look at this vid from Friday's commute home. It's on a B road where speeds can get over 40 so lots of potential for scary overtakes. On one of the side lanes there's a waste management company - lots of skips, lorries, heavy equipment being moved. I've had not a spot of bother from them.
As you can see yourselves!

MARVEL at the first overtake.

APPLAUD the patience of the second.

WONDER why it's not always like this.

Great stuff Archie, and very well done on posting a positive like that on the tube.

That was great, how about making this a sticky and people put positive vids on, would show a good balance , and also show there are a lot of good drivers out there.

Nice ones. The HGV drivers are usually pretty good around my manor as well, although I did see two on their mobiles last week .

I'd be tempted to send a note to the company to say thank you. Since we quite rightly complain about poor driving, I think its justified to acknowledge the good as well.

Excellent overtake by the second skip lorry... but then he turns off about 200 yards further on anyway! lol.

The Merc driver was a bit of an arse though.

Actually just emailing them saying thanks and asking them to thank all their drivers as it really does make a difference. Then their drivers will realise it is really appreciated and won't just cut you up if they were in a rush (etc).

The other day the one bus company around here I didn't expect any trouble from overtook quite close. I emailed the footage and just said I was a little disappointed and if they could remind their drivers (other companies I might not have been as patient). The next day I got an apology from the director who was looking into it.

It's great to see examples of good driving, and to have your confidence in general standards upped by good drivers. I think it should be the case that all drivers of vehicles that are being paid to drive should be paid per time, not per unit job/delivery. I think most lorry drivers are, which is good. It would be good if the same were applied to the dangerous maniacs at the wheels of buses.

It's always the buses isn't it. It's because they have to do a route in a certain time, and it eats into their break if they're late. The sooner they get round the route, the longer they can spend standing fagging at the terminus.

Aren't bus drivers also paid by time, rather than route?

yes but they have to do a certain amount of routes per day otherwise they get disciplined. And time at the end of the line is break time.

Have you been a bus driver? You seem to have a very deep knowledge of some of their motivation ?

This is not the case, they are always told you can be late with traffic, brake downs ect, but if your more than one minute early then they can be disciplined.

I wouldn't say I only have problems with buses or it's always buses. However, for proportion of vehicles on the road I would be willing to say they can be a high offender. I probably get most problems with cars, but then this is the biggest road users.

The worst incidents have been with bus drivers and my only "life flashing before my eyes" type incident was with a lorry (however, does this count as a tipper lorry which some lorry drivers on here have said they dislike?). This is partly because of their size but with the bus drivers I've had them being quite confrontational. Even when I was willing to let it go one pulled along side me just to mouth off.

To be honest, after a few incidents with bus drivers (and some car drivers) around Norwich is the main reason I got the helmet camera. I just got a bit fed up.

However, for every bad one there are many good ones. In Norwich First have a lovely bus driver (from a passenger POV). He's always really helpful, and for instance, one time when waiting to go home. A bus came the other way with Clive the driver on. He stopped and yelled across that it would be him who'd be coming back to collect us so to get on now. I'm sure most drivers wouldn't have bothered and we'd of been sitting in the cold for another 20 minutes.
