Can’t do nothing at the moment due to shoulder operation, but my arms look thin and frail. I’ve put a lot of work into my legs but nothing into my upper body. Just ordered some dumb bells ready for the go ahead from my physio lady. They say as you get older you loose your muscles but that’s a rubbish excuse as my legs have great muscles at 59 yrs old 😎
So easy to concentrate to much on just the cycling 🤔

When I was ill 12 years ago my body effectively ate its own leg muscles... I ended up with legs that looked like sparrows legs!!

My arms always look a bit weedy. You are right - some upper body exercise needed. I stopped using my kettlebells when I got backache. Time to start again!

Good luck with your rehab.

About 20 years ago I ended up with one sparrow leg and one normal one. That was comical.

But on topic I've been doing more upper body stuff lately. I've made some improvement in the weights I can use.

Ive got the best legs I've ever had at 59. I used to weight train in my twenties and didnt do a great deal until 8 years ago, when I bought some new weights, squat rack and barbells etc. Ive got my gym setup almost complete now. I try to workout twice, maybe three times a week, between racing on Zwift. Getting back into basics too, press-up/ high rep squats. Next target is to be able to do pullups again-need a bit more back work. I take extra protein most days to help keep what muscle I have, not interested in getting big n bulky like in my twenties

I’ve always had a great upper body until I started cycling. It was my wife that kindly pointed out the sparrow legs as arms 😂
I’ll sort them out as soon as I can. I’m the same as you, not interested in a bulky top half, but not as it is at the moment 🤣

I have muscles like knots in cotton. I've never been able to do a single press-up, but I have lugged some pretty heavy weights around in my time: I used to lift instruments weighing 60-70lb at work, and carry an 80lb bike and luggage up flights of stairs.

If you have somewhere to hang them (at home or a local public space) I'd recommend a set of gym rings to complement the free-weights, as they allow you to exercise bits in ways you can't with weights alone (lots of pulling movements, for example).
