Recently moved from London to Fife and now Midlothian to settle, so as you can imagine I've been into a bit of everything at some point - road cycling for commutes, some forest trails, and a reasonable amount of NCN routes and dubious bridleways. When I had much less of a beer belly I did train and take on a 125mi charity bike ride.
I'm very much into recreational riding, time trials and joining a peloton is grand on the TV but not for me in real life. Endurance I can do, speed less so!
With the long distance move, I've narrowed myself down to one bike at the moment - a Trek FX 3 Disc. Had some great adventures on it bike-packing - taking the bike on the train (and the hilarity that can create), then cycling for a couple of days, visiting cheese shops and tea rooms, then finishing up at a different railway station for the way home, camping in between.
I've had achilles tendonitis for a while now and while it's getting a lot better, getting on the tops and the pressure put on my calves and tendon on inclines is still a bit much. So I'm on the lookout for an e-bike - torn between a gravel, or future-proofing somewhat with a mountain bike. Probably leaning towards a gravel bike as it'll also be a handy utility cycling bike.
Will probably on the lookout for some leisure rides locally once I finish unpacking
