I'm not one to moan but why didn't my car come with at least a space saver wheel, you only get a funny little compressor thing and a can of useless gunk that doesn't work.

Just give us a proper fuggin' spare you tight-arse tosspots!

That was all really...

I guess they sell them like that because some people seem happy to buy them like that.

The only three occasions when my car has ceased to function in the last ten years has been from punctures. I would not even have a car with a space saver wheel, as they are useless if you tow a caravan and cannot be used.

The manufacturers hide behind the less weight/better fuel economy/more eco argument, I say meh!

The manufacturer I indirectly work for tried this a few years ago, although they continued to offer an actual spare wheel as an option too.

After loads of complaints they did a u-turn and ditched the compressor kits.

The compressor kits are very good IMO, but they should only ever be additional to a physical spare wheel.

I refused a good deal on a car because it didn't have a spare wheel, ended up buying a 1 year old identical (almost) ex rental car in the colour I wanted for £3000 less that had the £250 spare wheel option fitted

They don't provide spacesaver spares on cars fitted with (rft) runflat tyres. The tyre sidewall is much thicker than a convential sidewall, and is capable of supporting the cars weight with no air in them.
A puncture warning system is fitted, which alerts the driver,as a physical inspection may not highlight you have a defective tyre.
The idea is ....
A) put the gunk in via the valve, pump up the tyre with provided compressor, drive at 55mph max and source a runflat replacement asap .
OR
B) keep driving knowing that one tyre has a problem, straight to a dealer or tyre depot that can remove rft tyres (more difficult due to stronger sidewalls), and then continue your journey with a much lighter wallet
BMW use these across the range. Horrible tyres that give a harsh ride. Each tyre costs £220 !!!!
I changed all 4 @ £120 each, bought skinny spare, jack & wheel brace @ £175. The result is a smooth quiet luxury vehicle that cyclist hate! PMSL

And the hassle of p*ssing about at the side of the road in the wind and rain and the possibility of getting wiped out by another motorist that isn't concentrating, or hanging around until the RAC come out, all depends how you look at it. Each to their own I suppose.
