Dear Friends at Cyclorama,
Good Afternoon! I wanted to send you a quick message and see if I would be able to write a guest article on your site. I am a recent college graduate that wants to continue my learning through writing for others. My idea is to write an informational article about the difficulties faced by drivers on the road with the unbelievable amount of new distractions today.
If there is something specific you are more interested in sharing with your readers, I would be happy to write about that as well. Please, e-mail me back and let me know what you think.
Best Wishes,

Hi Abby, I'd be very interested indeed. However, as a driver, a cyclist and occasional ped I simply don't recognize the '..... difficulties faced by drivers on the road with the unbelievable amount of new distractions today.'

It's a very brave (or perhaps a silly) person who writes to a cycling website expressing such a notion when it is the experience of the majority of cyclists on British roads that a high percentage of motorists break the law as a matter of course. Speeding, running red lights, parking on pavements, tail-gating and, of course, my favourite, over-taking cyclists without leaving enough room.

Because surely, if there really are, as you suggest, too many distractions surely the obvious thing to do is to simply slow down?

Looking forward to your reply with eager anticipation.

That would be to assume she was actually genuine. I get these fairly regularly, wanting to contribute 'original content' or articles but it's basically an attempt at SEO - they want to put some badly copy/pasted text (the 'article') on your site with a link back to theirs, which (assuming you run a site with good Google reputation) raises their Google rankings and directs traffic their way.

Not entirely a dishonest way to promote their site perhaps, if the 'article' were a genuine piece of writing, but I wouldn't hold your breath...

Seems it's a known tactic e.g.:

I wouldn't touch her with a bargepole, if she says 'that' instead of 'who'....
