Guiding some newbies around (across?) Lon Las (and I'm from N Ireland!)

So, in July there are a few friends wanting to do the Lon Las route - they will be on road bikes - although I think I'll stick to my touring bike but I don't anticipate getting left behind. I'm looking at route planning

I'm thinking
Day 1 - Chepstow - Builth Wells via Gospel Pass (71m)
Day 2 - Builth Wells - Dollgellau via Machynlleth (69m)
Day 3 - Dollgellau - Caernarfon via Barmouth & Porthmadog (60m)
then on the sunday morning tootle from Caernarfon to Bangor to catch a train back to London

- Does this look like a reasonable route?

- Would I be better sticking to the road bike? (I've avoided the route 8 from Dollgellau, as it looks more like MTB territory to me, but I could be wrong

- I've been asked to plan South to North, HOWEVER, we set out on July 23rd, and that appears to be the final day of the Royal Welsh Show and the night we are arriving in Builth Wells, before we get too carried away with plans, should we (if we have the luxury to) *avoid* the Builth Wells area on that day due to the show? This would liekly affect both accommodation and traffic, I presume

- Any B&B recommendations from those who have done it before? in our destinations, and should we just crack on to Bangor and have done on day 3, I;'ve never been so I don't know what its like

There was a really long thread about a Welsh cycle on the front page of the forum, which I was reading at the weekend but it appears to have disappeared....not to worry. Advice gratefully accepted, as I am an enthusiastic map planned, for a bunch who have NO sense of direction and so I'm hoping for advice

thanks all

I have completed the Sustrans Lon Las Cymru . They have published a set of maps. I can not comment on the the B&B aspect as I camped all of the way. The roads are quiet and the off road sections are doable on road bikes. It is hilly in places and you'll have the advantage of lower gears if you take your tourer.

The onloy way to find out about the wisdom of booking accommodation in Builth Wells is to attempt to make a booking on the specified dates.
