My year old GT Transeo was stolen from my garage last week. It was covered by home insurance, but the excess is so high, and the impact on premiums in future so swingeing, that there is no point claiming.

I guess I should have pretended that the garage was full of the crown jewels to inflate the claim like I hear everyone else does, but that's not my style. So its back to my old Falcon Explorer which they left behind whilst I decide what to do for the future.

Your premiums go up in the event of a claim?

Mine didn't on the occasions of us making claims in the past.

I'd make the claim and get whatever you can then shop around at renewal time to get a lower premium.

Good man.

I have never bothered with household insurance; or bike locks, come to that. That is no doubt why I have never had anything stolen; like getting in the bath to make the phone ring.
