Unusual I know, but I recall from a little while back we should have more positive posts so here is one.

Over the course of the 12 miles to work this morning - every driver, without exception was well behaved. In particular, numerous white van men were patient and wide when passing. Top honours goes to a Edinburgh Council mini-bus who followed me for an age, me doing just over 20mph in a 30mph zone, he could, like most folk would have, come past but wouldn't have gained much with buses and traffic about so held back. Refreshing to witness such large doses of common sense in operation.

To top off the commute there were loads of other cyclists on the cycle path to pass. Not scalps - too slow to count, but good to pace yourself from one to the next. Went by 9!

Out.

99% of the time I thoroughly enjoy my commute.....it's the 1% that used to really spoil it, but the more I keep riding, the thicker my skin has become. As for the well behaved mini-bus driver, I do the same sometimes. Hanging behind a road biker at a steady 25 mph is actually quite relaxing when I'm in the lorry.

Enjoy tomorrows ride!

I now note why we don't have many 'nice commute' posts. Nobody cares, they just want to moan at drivers etc. 60 odd views and 1 reply. Says it all really!!

Same here. Only one poor pass this morning.

Caught up with him, he wound down his window and I said as politely as I could "That was a bit of a s*** overtake back there on St Michaels Road". He replied "Yeah sorry about that, I do apologise."
"Apology accepted!" I said, as the lights changed and we moved off.

Thats all I wanted, to let the driver know it was poor and hopefully make him think more carefully next time he passes a cyclist on a blind left turn.

Edit: LOL 007

I didn't reply 'cos I was jealous – this morning's commute was peppered with close passes on the road sections, slaloming through horse manure on the shared-path sections, pushing into a head wind with unusually tired legs, and having to steer right just to go straight on when the 30mph+ gusts decided to attack me from the side.....

Hopefully, the return journey will be more pleasant

Today's commute was a good one - even though there were no cyclists, androgynous or otherwise, to follow/overtake/watch disappearing off into the sunrise... weather was dry, wind was non existent, everything just rolled along.

The good thing is that if every incident-free commute was commented on then there would be so many threads the board would collapse..

This morning I hitched up my trailer, had an alternative route into work as I didn't have to go through town to drop any small parcels off, just larger ones for courier collection

Just one driver that had a "must overtake" then held me up by slowing down as soon as past to approach the left-turn that they wanted to take

Thing is (apart from the one minor nothing-incident) that is how it SHOULD be every day - "WOW! No-one tried to squash me today" shouldn't need a comment

No one tried to squash me today or any other day in the last 2 months. A1307 Haverhill to Cambridge. ( A high casualty route, for drivers at least ). Prob gonna die tomorrow now I've said that! :-)

Since moving, we have a nice commute, 7.5 miles each way, into the City to look for a job. To top it off, there is free & secure (ish) bike parking at one of the city centre car parks, in a big cage thing with bike posts to lock too.
We have found most drivers to be courteous to cyclists here, there are a lot of cyclists about too.

There is a lot to be said for a pleasant daily commute.

If my company relocates (downsizes) which, although no announcement has been officially made, the rumours (coupled with the current packing and moving of boxes from filing/archive rooms) seem to point that way, it will mean a 1 mile addition to my commute - not a bad thing in itself

Only trouble is it is either over silly hills or tram tracks (or an appaling cycle path), all which dump me in a big traffic queue - the trike might not be practical due to filtering issues

Space will be limited so no idea where I will park especially a trike/trailer combo but due to undesirables it must be inside!

So I suppose I should be grateful for the better commutes I do have at the moment

Though on the plus side it is closer to the edge of Sheffield and may encourage me to take the scenic route more often!

I recall making a tread with the same title (for the same reason) about a year ago...or was it two..

Its good to smell the roses now and again so, by way of a "bump"...

Me too

Was having a lovely ride in traffic lights where all green. Apart from 1, drivers where all great. Only downside was the realisationthat a 6 week old chain had seized in 1 link and was jumping on the rearcassette!
