Just a quick update in case anyone is interested: had my local bike mechanic look at it and he has adjusted the wheel and brakes, so that's all fine now.
As for the handlebar there was another nut underneath the stem that I didn't even know was there that had come a little loose. All fixed now, no more wobble and the nice mechanic didn't charge me anything at all. What a star. Thank you everyone for your help, very much appreciated.
