Odd no-one's mentioned this. There are plenty of people I wouldn't watch on telly, but there is one person probably the entire nation would sit down to watch...he's 99. Happy Birthday for yesterday, Sir David Attenborough.

Probably because we are all waiting to see if he makes it to next year!

I was lucky enough to hear him give an Honorary Graduate speech at Exeter University 14 years ago when he was a mere 85. He spoke for about 10 minutes without notes, didn't 'um' or 'ah' or trip over any words once, and the speech itself was very relevant to the occasion, talking about how at important times in their lives, animals sometimes wear 'silly clothes'. In retrospect I'm sorry I didn't use my role in the ceremony to request briefly meeting him - I'm not really interested in 'celebrity' for its own sake, but he is just a legend, for good reason.

That reminds me slightly of when I had the chance to have my picture taken with Eve Muirhead (Olympic Gold Medalist) at a Curling thing years ago, but I turned the offer down.

If anything, she is the one who appeared to be a bit put out by it! 🤣

To be fair, I see them all at things from time to time anyway, so it was no 'biggie' for me.

Even if I don't do 'celebrity', I was properly jealous when an ex-pupil of mine not only had Quincy Jones speak at her graduation, but also got a selfie with him. Another legend, for very good reason.
