Has my Sram shifter broken?

When I try to change from large to small chain ring by pushing the lever there is no feel/ resistance.

If I pull the lever back to the bars and release it quickly it will kind of connect, I can then feel cable tension which will release when I move the shifter and it will work.

I can then move to large chain ring as normal but have to repeat the procedure when I change to small ring.

Feels as if internal part is faulty. The shifter is 8 months old and rarely used. Any advice. Thanks.

I would take it back to the place you bought it and have them check it over if poss.

Given the age of the part, and you not being sure - go back to shop.

Good chance it's a cable fault - i.e. dragging/kinked or crud. But go back and get it checked.
