He must have been on Lunch

I nipped up to a lbs at lunch and on the way home (I wish) back to work there was a courier in front of me. It was downhill and I caught him 3 times no problem him on a fixie road bike and me on a wide tyre hybrid. I just found the way he handled lights interesting, he stopped at every red and did track stand, but as soon as the opposing flow went red he was off. I had a bit more time before the fourth junction which was now on the flat so I went by but something tells me he must of been on lunch.

Isn't the light for the opposing flow the same colour for you?

So the courier set off a few seconds early as his lights were not green yet. He's what you'd call an amber gambler!

The only time I really was an amber gambler the house won ;). I'd been standing there forever too so assumed it would be alright. wrong.

Isn't an ambler gambler someone who goes though after the light is no longer green. I.e. they're going through on amber in the assumption that they'll clear the junction before the other light go green.

I've heard in refered to as "taking an early green" - but you then risk getting hit by any ambler gamblers (just just plain RLJer) on the conflicting lights.

if it's a big junction they'll watch the ped lights, as soon as they go green it's safe for a bike to ride through, I used to do it in my younger years
