I use in ear phones all the time specifically these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-EP...5G/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1360522806&sr=8-13
A bit under budget but you could use the £91 to get the other half something nice!

Seriously there are so many ways to bork headphones (I get through at least four pairs a year) cheap and reasonable quality is the way to go.

I love my Shure in-ear phones. Had a set of e2c phones from 2005 'til last year when the connection went. Bought some Shure SE215's late last year and they're even better than the e2c's.

Highly recommended.

Does anyone use those sport specific ones that hook over your ears? I have some bog standard in-ear ones, but they always fall out my ears when I get sweaty.
Yeah, I got some cheapo Philips ones that I bought when I was going to start jogging (LOL!). I just use them on the train, walking and sat at my desk at work. They've lasted ages and have been through the wash after being left in my pocket. BOMBPROOF!

EDIT: these are them http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003A7BB...de=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B003A7BBRQ, £4 on amazon! (but I'd buy them from somewhere else cause amazon don't pay no tax  )
