@ColinJ and others who live in those parts:
I know that 5th July is the first day of TdF and all that, and most cyclists' eyes will be pointed that way... but there is a vague possibility that I will be near Hebden Bridge on 5th (ready to watch Le Tour on 6th) WITH MY ROAD BIKE :smile:... if so, and it might not work out, does anyone fancy coming for a ride? Show me some decent hills etc?
Was going to put this in forum rides, but thought it might catch more attention here...
It might not work out, but we have a poss offer to stay with someone whose front door the tour will go past on 6th. I'm hoping to get there Fri eve (or mebbe early Sat) and have the day for cycling.

I don't know the area at all. I know it's very hilly. I like hills.

I do not plan to go and watch the Tour stage 1, but will definitely be about that weekend because I will be watching stage 2 pass through here.

Yes, I would definitely be up for a ride. We could do some of the climbs that will be featuring on stage 2. I would be happy to plot a route and guide you round. Would you like me to start a thread in the rides section? (I'd be happy to go ahead with the ride even if you can't make it.)

That sounds great @ColinJ , thanks hugely. I'm hoping it'll all work out, but as it involves other people who seem to enjoy like complications (I don't ) then I'll sort of have to see how it goes,,, but all being well, it'll be a great opportunity for me to meet y'all (whoever can make it) and have a ride in a bit of the country I really don't know at all .

Not trying to spoil it. More trying to avoid disappointment for you.

The top part of the Crag Vale climb is closed from saturday.
Where did you find the closure times?

According to the letour.yorkshire website - the closures are from 06:00 ish to 18:00 ish on the Sunday.

Council are closing some of the minor roads off on the Saturday.
Emergency meeting held Tuesday of last week, because the council have only just realised that the Elland by-pass(A629) upto Junction 24 will be closed. There might be a problem if anything happens on the M62.
Council website may have a fuller list of all the roads affected.
A58, Rochdale Road, down into Sowerby Bridge & the A6028, Wakefield Road, to Elland Wood Bottom(Down the hill from the Hospital) are also going to be closed, to all but Emergency Vehicles.

For the day itself, Halifax is becoming one big car park. A "Park & Ride" bus service will be in operation.

The list of bus services not running that day is growing.

Round there is my planned viewing point. Going for a quick tootle round at the weekend to look for a suitable vantage point and where to stash the bike that nobody else will have thought of (hahahaha)
Pub just back down the road. As you head into Littleborough, but before you start the descent proper.

The White House? Littleboro end of the reservoir? I'd imagined it would have been closed off further back, but probably not as it'd be a good long car park of a road for people watching them top out the climb.
