I've been lurking for a while and since you're such a pleasant bunch I thought I'd introduce myself. ^_^

I hadn't been near a bike since primary school, until my partner decided she was going to start cycling to work. I was quite against the idea (to put it mildly :shy:), although in my defence I work in personal injury for a firm who handle a lot of cycling claims. Speaking to cyclists who have been knocked down by lunatic motorists on a daily basis did colour my opinion of cycling a bit!

Anyway, she got her bike (a Whyte Malvern) and I have to admit that I was a little jealous of her new toy. I started tentatively looking at bikes and had a little test ride (much to my relief what they say about riding a bike is true - it's like riding a bike, you don't forget) and I had loads of fun. I picked up my Specialized Crosstrail sport disc the other day. ^_^

Very pleasantly surprised that cycling on the road wasn't the terrifying experience I expected. I don't drive so I'm looking forward to a bit of freedom that doesn't involve public transport. I've also signed up for the 26 mile Great Manchester Cycle and can't wait!

:welcome:Sam!
You will really notice the difference now that you cycle. Waiting for the bus is such a waste of time, pedaling gets you there much faster!:bicycle:

Welcome to the forum, some really nice places to cycle in and around manchester.
If I want to take it easy on the bike, I go around the city centre,(nice and flat) if I want a challenge then I head towards oldham or mottram lots of hill.

Happy cycling from just off the East Lancs !!! Some routes can be a bit lary but just keep your wits about you and expect the un-expected ! other than that it's great to pass a load of gridlocked cars and get fit at the same time !
