I've been lurking for a while and since you're such a pleasant bunch I thought I'd introduce myself.
I hadn't been near a bike since primary school, until my partner decided she was going to start cycling to work. I was quite against the idea (to put it mildly
), although in my defence I work in personal injury for a firm who handle a lot of cycling claims. Speaking to cyclists who have been knocked down by lunatic motorists on a daily basis did colour my opinion of cycling a bit!
Anyway, she got her bike (a Whyte Malvern) and I have to admit that I was a little jealous of her new toy. I started tentatively looking at bikes and had a little test ride (much to my relief what they say about riding a bike is true - it's like riding a bike, you don't forget) and I had loads of fun. I picked up my Specialized Crosstrail sport disc the other day.
Very pleasantly surprised that cycling on the road wasn't the terrifying experience I expected. I don't drive so I'm looking forward to a bit of freedom that doesn't involve public transport. I've also signed up for the 26 mile Great Manchester Cycle and can't wait!
