Hi,

I stumbled across this forum whilst googling tough climbs around Cheshire, it's far too flat for my likes. I'm training for IronmanUK and have been in search of hills to train on. Done Mow Cop a few times, been up to the Cat and Fiddle too. Anyone know any other must do climbs in the area? I'm looking to put together a 100ish mile route in the next few weeks with 2000+ Meters of climbing in.

Thanks in advance

Hello :welcome:

Have a go at this.

Not a single climb but three linked. Makes Mow Cop look a bit girly.

Hi and :welcome: @DazTheDJ

I don't know about notable climbs in your immediate area but if you have a 100ish miler in mind you should find plenty in the Peak District and places like the Horseshoe Pass in North Wales would also be in reach. If you're willing to venture slightly further afield I can recommend South Shropshire - The Burway and Asterton Bank on the Long Mynd are pretty decent challenges.

This might do the job if you ride over from Middlewich to add a few miles: http://www.strava.com/routes/234080

It would be a 200km Ride from Middlewich. It's tempting though.......

Yeah that doable. That includes the segement you posted yesterday.
Yep we did that as part of the ride, that route has lots of steep stuff, not my forte, I prefer the longer draggy climbs. There are plenty of other options in the area, The Brickworks is a nice climb. Steeper than The Cat and Fiddle or Long Hill from Whaley Bridge, but not nasty steep like Pyms Chair. If you want a real lungbuster Winnats Pass is a right killer.

I don't really want silly steep. 10-15% is more than enough. The Ironman course has 2 main hills, Sheep House Lane and Hunters hill both done twice. Hunters Hill is the steepest at 15% in places. I prefer long drags like Cat and Fiddle but need to practice shorter sharper too.
