Howdy all, from a very windy East Sussex!
I just found this forum, and was lurking around and decided to join up. I’ve only ever had 3 bikes in my life, a grifter my brother made me, which was great!

Roll on 20 years or so I brought a Revolution Cadence xc 06, which was stolen from the underground car park admittedly it wasn’t chained up, as foolishly I thought it would be safe…….Next was my replacement bike an insurance jobbie a Scott Contessa 55 2010.

Guess what happened next – this bike was recently stolen too!! And it was d locked with an extender cable, and locked to another bike! The thief had simply used bolt cutters and took the bike away. All was reported, and crime number given, but I doubt I will see it again!

I have to say I’m not the most gifted rider, and only stick to cycle paths and the like.

Hi and :welcome:.

You've not had the best of luck have you. How about a good bike for weekends and another Grifter to lock up when you're out. I know I'm paranoid whenever I leave a bike locked anywhere. I keep going past and checking if I can.
Another tip is lock it where it is full view of lots of people not hidden away as most (not all as some are very brazen and will take it from outside a police station) will only go for those bikes that no-one else can see. In view of a CCTV camera would also be good as the scumbag could be identified.
There's lots of tips and advice on you tube like this. And plenty of websites with advice and horror stories.
Good luck with your next replacement.

Thanks GP, the thing is I locked the bikes in full view of CCTV, albeit in the underground car park, and the thief could not be identified, as the images wasn't clear enough!. My next bike will be a shopper, and I will be keeping it indoors!

Hello and welcome let's hope your luck changes

Welcome Rustylady,

They say these things come in 3's, so you should be ok here on in as far as bike thefts go :hello:

Mrs G. rides a Contessa and IMO it's a good bike that would be worth replacing like for like.

Ps.. Luvin' your avatar too

Welcome, and sorry to hear about your bike! Hope you get a replacement soon, then maybe the growing Sussex contingent can organise a forum ride or two?

Would it be a ride suitable for all abilities? As I'm now a proud owner of one of these, and a good set of locks!
