Hello,
I am new to the site so hope its okay to ask please.
I am wondering if there are any sites which deal specifically with touring bikes.
I am looking to buy a quality second hand one.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Thank you,
Regards
Steve

Nip over to the touring section and ask there. There's also a touring section on the CTC web site you can find it here http://forum.ctc.org.uk

Be aware that there isn't a correct answer to your question. You will get lots of suggestions and then you'll have the headache of trying to sort out what you need from what you want.

Second hand tourers will almost always be private sales - caveat emptor.

I looked around a year ago and ended up with a second hand Dawes Super Galaxy (get the super as the non super has horrid bar end shifters). It is 10 years old but was unused. Expensive but hold their price second hand.
Was very tempted by a Revolution Country Traveller as the new option.

Hi Steve (dezza291051),
I bought a 2nd hand touring bike last year from ebay. I was also looking on the ctc forum as linked to earlier by Vernon.
Before you can undertake either of these routes you will at least need to know size you want. It's also important that you know the price of new tourers as on ebay/etc the prices for 2nd hand can get close to or surpass the price for new.

I'm sure your get help on here if you have any specific questions.

Hello,
I think that i'm now in the right section...thanks for the previous advice.
I am wanting a small size 26" wheel touring bike ..up to £1500 and second hand.
I'm wondering what material ie 853 etc and whether to go Rohloff.
The key Q please is ...are there any specific sites out there other than e bay or the CTC which have a touring bike for sale section.
Any advice would be please welcome.
Thanks
Steve

Mod hat on:

I've merged the two threads and moved them both into this section, so hope you get the advice you seek.

Depends on what type of touring you want to do Steve, are u thinking camping or b&b/hotel, hostels ?
I think the best is your LBS tell them what you are looking for and your budget they should be able to help and if they are any good they will measure you up for the bike that suits you.
Unlike buying on line you can try the bike b4 you buy.
Also with the LBS you can normally take it back for a free service after 6 weeks just to iron out any problems like gear cables/brake cables stretching also to ensure it is running smoothly.
