A friend spent months re-building and fettling a Mk1 only for someone to T-bone him on it's first day on the road. The car was written off and he got a broken ankle into the bargain.

Ouch - yh I don't think I would like to get hit in it - considering it is now 36 yrs old and back then safety wasn't really the main focus.
