Now if this was one of my threads and I had posted exactly the same, I would already have 15 pages of "constructive criticism".

If you weren't out riding your bike, you wouldn't get into so many incidents. Stop cycling and enjoy life.

Today i've had not one, but two motorists trying to undertake me whilst simultaneously turn right at traffic lights.

Worlds gone mad!

I find bikers can overtake a little close for my liking and with some engines I can't tell by the sound if it's a car or not, really scares you if there is oncoming traffic.

Mostly they are decent though, much like anyone.

The sad thing is that the ones who are nobbers think it's okay.

I recently did my CBT (in the process of getting a motorbike for commuting to uni as it's 20 miles with no showers to use) and my brother did it well with me. Came up behind a cyclist, my brother in front, me behind and instructor behind. Brother pulled right out to the middle of the road, on the white line as there was nothing coming, as did I.

"Oi, whatchu doin' that for? It's only a f**king cyclist, you don't need to give that much room" we both got over the intercom.

Yeah... he was an arse. Just as well he passed both of us - I told him afterwards that what he did was perfectly legal and safe. He did his typical hard nut attitude when I challenged him. In the end he grumbled about it when I just said "Rule 163 - go and read it and learn something".

These are the people training other people to ride on the roads, apparently safely. Just as well me and my brother aren't knuckle draggers like him.

Can you report him? Seems he shouldn't be examining motorcyclists if he doesn't know the Highway Code.

Probably but I wouldn't have the foggiest on how to report him or to even prove it anyway.

He seemed to be more interested in ogling the eye candy when he was supposed to be teaching us to ride up and down a car park without falling off or launching the bike from underneath us.

I got a CBT valid for 2 years as did my brother who is now pootling around on his Yamaha 125 and I'm soon to join him. We're both full licence holders anyway so we're not complete road noobs. I do pity the poor 16 year old who gets shoved on a scooter and has no idea what he's doing with him though.

View attachment 28493 Thanks for the advice everyone. Normally, this sort of thing hardly ever happens here. I have posted a screenshot of the road and the red arrow indicates my position. It was 7.30am, hardly any cars on the road. I was sat in the ASL, patiently waiting for the lights to change. As you can all see from the shot, the left turn lane is very clearly indicated. As the lights changed, I went forwards in the right hand lane which is for going straight on. I was just over the crossing when Mr Dimwit shot past on my left. It wasn't like 30mph, looked more like 40mph. He braked when he caught up with the line of cars and then swerved to overtake them all on the right. If you follow the road on Google Maps, you'll see it curves around to the right before straightening out. This guy was in a hurry and took one big risk in overtaking on a bend.
He stopped at the lights at the end, so as I came down the left lane (I work around the corner) still fuming, I managed to control myself which, to be honest, I sometimes find difficult in encounters like this. I think it's probably the heady mix of adrenalin and testosterone:blush:.

I had a few seconds before the lights changed, so this is what I said:

"Excuse me, you cut me up back there. It's dangrous and illegal, your riding is s***, don't do it again"

Which I think is about as controlled as I could be with heart still racing. He looked genuinly suprised to see me, so I hope he gave it some thought. Anyway, made me feel better at chastising him.

By odd coincidence, my helmet cam was not running - full SD card. If it had been, I would have said this:

"Excuse me mate, you illegally cut me up back there. It's dangerous and I would search for your number plate on Youtube tonight"

On the other encounters, one was with an L-plated biker who, just nipped through as the lights changed and was a fair distance from me, but undertook all the same. The car driver who did it to me learnt his lesson - almost went into the back of stationary cars on the other side of the junction:laugh:. This junction got redesigned a few years ago when a new gas main was installed. It used to have a rubbish little cycle lane down the left, but now the road splits into two lanes just before the petrol station.

Anyway, that's my tuppence worth. I shall heed your advice Gaz and try to be cool about things. Oddly enough, with the helmet cam on my head, hardly anything happens.

Ugh I never liked that junction (which I've only driven), the lack of lane lines always made me nervous of the positioning of right turning cars and the chance of people undertaking. Plus it was almost always dark when I drove down there so just glare of headlights to indicate road position (which probably made it harder than just using the streetlighting imo)

I think the road redesign is in part to blame. Despite the left turn lane being very clearly indicated, there is a temptation for bikers and drivers to undercut cyclists who are going straight on. The numpty who undertook me obviously came down the left turn lane which agve him enough room to get up to speed. I did actually hear his engine approaching but thought since it's behind on my left, he'd be turning left. A lot of motorcyclists are, since the next left turn takes you along to a branch of a motorbike dealers.

I am now getting into the habit of looking over my left shoulder to check that left lane as I move on. However, there's always one numpty. I can almost forgive people with L plates, although undertaking is such a basic no-no that common sense rather than the HC, should tell you it's dangerous. This guy was in a hurry and most likely a seasoned motorcyclist who really should have known better. I hope my chastising him made him realise that it was a dumb move. Next time, up on Youtube for the world to see. Of course, one hopes that there will not be a next time....
