i assume this comes up regularly, but i was looking for one under £100 that would get the job done?
the back story is i had an "incident" with a first bus not liking the fact that i was cycling in the middle of the lane (for my own safety), as there was roadworks in the right hand lane with the cones protruding into the left lane, meaning there wasnt enough room for a car to overtake me, let alone a bus and i decided on approach, to move into the centre (i did look and the bus was a few hundred metres behind me when i entered the roadworks, didnt just move over in front of it into the centre) and he was driving so far up my back wheel i had to cycle as fast as possible as i genuinely felt like he was going to ram me, and was making threatening gestures every time i turned round to look, then when the roadworks finished he moved into the right lane and unleashed a torrent of abuse and threatening gestures from his seat... i should also point out, that 15-20metres in front of the roadworks was a set of traffic lights, which were at red from when i entered the roadworks, and there was 2 cars waiting in the left lane and 1 in the right after i came out the roadworks, so he wasnt even being held up as he would only have gotten to the red light faster, i pulled on to the pavement, took the registration plate, identifier etc, at which point i was literally shaking.
i reported it to first, heard nothing for a week, phoned back up and said it was a shocking incident, i hadnt cycled to work since as i was still a bit shaken up by the whole thing and that if they didnt do anything im going down to the station and reporting it to the police, i was trying to be nice and have it dealt with internally, etc. the woman on the phone basically told me it'll take as long as it takes, they passed it to the depot so its their problem! so i've reported it and the police said they'll check public cctv and with first as there should be cctv on the bus and possibly front facing cctv aswell and they'll look at charging him with driving without due care and attention and the statutory equivelant of breach of the peace, as apparently theres something to do with it being after the incident since breach of the peace is common law, section 38 of the criminal justice and licensing act scotland i think it was for the threatening behaviour. The PC was quite frank and said i was lucky, since its a bus it shoudl have cctv, but if it was a car and i had no witnesses, and no public space cctv covered it then it wouldnt meet a corroboration thing, and they couldnt do anything which has got me going down the whole helmet cam line...

Read my guide to buying a helmet camera, gives you lots of tips and has some well known brands listed at the bottom which cover most price ranges.

I was sick and tired of 'near misses,' poor driving etc. so I bought a helmet camera... I think that is why the majority of people buy cameras for cycling on the road in the first place...

If you're looking for a cheap, but decent quality camera, I would recommend a Poseidon 720P HD Camera from Chinavasion. Its a good quality camera that won't break the bank...

Soon I'm going to upgrade my forward-facing camera to one of these and have my Poseidon as a rear facing camera... See a review for this camera here

Wow those Poseidon's look great for the cash. £126 for the full HD tough as nuts one. Whats low light/night vid like?

Not thinking of one for the commute (had a Muvi clone whilst I was getting sorted for my shoulder) but these look fun to stick on a MTB, bit of night stuff..

Going from that guy's footage it looks like the Crocolis (the what?!?) has serious vibration sensitivity issues which might render it unsuitable for use on a bike, far more than what is my only issue with the poseidon. If they cost £125, you may as well pay the extra £25 for a Contour HD.

+1. Spend a little bit more and get a really decent camera.
