I got a budget road bike last week to get fit and i used my helmet i used on my mountain bike i had about 6 years ago but it kept slipping almost over my eyes because of the lean foward position on the road bike ,so do i need a helmet for road bikes or have i got the wrong size? I had no probs om my mountain bike with it

The obvious answer is that you have the head band too slack.

One helmet should suit all bikes, but the issue here isn't, IMO, about the helmet not being suitable for road bikes but about the helmet not being suitable for you to use on any bikes.
If the helmet moves at all, it will probably be, at best, useless and possibly even more dangerous than going without in a minor spill.
