Here is my dilemma , I would like another bike (who wouldn't) but it has to have certain characteristics
these being;
Not new
Aluminium frame carbon forks
16 speed with a low gear suitable for lugging my carcass up hills.
cheap enough for me not to worry about riding in crap weather
reliable, nothing fancy derailleurs
All or any suggestions will be gratefully received !

Yes the Ribble or the Dolan are both good value but each will depend on equipment fitted

I would be happy to be guided as far as what sort of equipment. What l am looking for is a bike l can ride throughout winter so that l can keep the steel Italians under wraps till the sun comes out.

Why not look at some of the early Carbon machines ie Specialzed and Giant neither of which i can remember the model names

The Ribble is in my budget for a winter trainer and it looks a sounds pretty damn good value for money, thank you for the info.

You are right, its a good looking btwin problem for me is that 54 is max.

There are loads of Allez's to choose from not knowing your location well enough whatever you go for budget on changing the rear cassette to one with a 28 or 32 big cog .

The Triban would be good and are Decathlon a french firm so must be a depot local ish
