I have an interview tomorrow and would really like to get the job. The position is a Sales Assistant at a Fabrics shop.
I have no sales experience and have stated that on the application form.

Any tips for me to get the job? Anything I should do/not say?

This is the second interview I have ever had. The first went well but the job offer I received was a load of beezwax.

Dress smartly (check what other employers there wear)
Turn up 10 minutes early
Show good knowledge of what the company sell and know who their competitors are
Smile and firm handshake
Anticipate questions...how did you deal with a difficult situation/customer?
Have your own questions to ask them

Someone much better than me will post some much more relevant advice

Wish you the best of luck!!

One thing a company loves and I learned this is they like new people(noobs) on the most part. True you may not know anything but they can shape you into the employee they want you to be since you have not been 'corrupted' by another companies ideals or ways of doing things. Make mention of this!
I said this and got an offer from Asda but they didn't have anything which fitted my time requirements which was a same. Piss easy interview if i don't say so myself.
Kinda surprised faces I think from the two people who interviewed me so. I it must have been good.
Smug face on.

Good luck.

I've got one tomorrow as well. First employed job I've contemplated in 10 years - just fancied doing it and applied!

One attraction is that if I got it it would be an easy bike commute (10 miles a day horizontally and 120 metres vertically) so I could think about not having a car and that would be worth £1000 a year of taxed income.

What monsieur says is all good. I'd add, from many hours the other side of the table, - be yourself, don't try to pretend you're what you're not, and keep in mind that the interviewer is usually as nervous as you are so be nice to her/ him.

Do you know anything about fabric, and associated Haberdashery?

If not, then you'll have to be frank about that too, but stress your willingness to learn.

In between here and there
Be polite and dress reasonably well, show than you will be there on time and do as you are asked. Just don't take your GoPro in to the interview..!!

Just turn on the charm without being too over confident, good luck.

A quote from my application form:
What is it about working for Abakhan Fabrics, Hobby & Home that interests you?
The ability to learn about a new area of work. I think it would be interesting and useful
to gain an insight into fabrics and assist customers with their purchases.

Most if the assistants in there dont have specialist knowledge. Most importantly is customer service and being able to help. My wife goes in there loads. Do read up on their web site and they do have other stores. Be polite look smart sound interested.

90% will be about how you look, how you sound, and if the interviewer likes you or not. A genuine confident smile, an ability to control the conversation without dominating, good active listening, good eye contact, relevant and timely questions. Don't be afraid to talk about the job, salary etc, and ask for the job in a professional way at the right moment; They want a salesman and a salesman closes the business.

Good luck with your interview. I know the place too and full knowledge of what they sell will be part of your training anyway. Be smart, articulate, give a straight answer to the questions, sound interested in what they sell and their customers and also make sure they understand that you will be reliable and always arrive on time.

If you got a job offer from your first interview you're either lucky or doing something right. Just do whatever it was the first time round if it is applicable in this situation (a very big if). My guess from your description given will be that it will probably be more 'traditional interview' than a competency test, DVD, team building exercise and modern fangled things, but you often don't know these things until you get there.

Have you been into the stores and had a look round, even have an informal chat with a supervisor to ask about the job. If that fed back to your interviewer it would be worth a couple of points.
