what is the difference between a 12k and a 3k carbon frame? thanks

3k is the most common; 12k is heavier and stiffer than 3k.

In top end frames the difference is probably cosmetic more than anything.

thanks. just got the allez ellite, already want a carbon bike. the 12k and 3k thing keeps poping up

All balls......the more you pay, the lighter/better.

Just drop in the 'nano tube' technology.... etc, toray 46 tonne etc.......

Some of this describes the finish weave, so that may be personal preference.

At the top end I think the manufacturers combine the two weaves so that the stronger 12k goes into the BB area and the lighter 3k material is used elswhere which would make sense.
