help needed

I use a Take a Look helmet-mounted mirror. There's a good review and video on the Travelling Two website. I must have looked in it every few seconds, whilst cycling, for the last four weeks checking for trucks as I cross Canada and couldn't imagine cycling without it now. The only place I've seen them available in the UK is on e-bay.
I've also used a Mirryclemirror which mounts on STi levers. There are also versions for straight bars. The mirror is pretty large and gives a good view, but, like all bar mounted mirrors, suffers from road vibration.

I use the Topeak bar end one for drops. Very solid; no shakes and has lasted 7,000 miles. There is a Blackburn one for drops which I tried first. It attaches to the hood with velcro. I only used it once as it was very shaky and then fell off.

Very smart. If everyone just googled instead of asking for advice, there'd be no forum. When you've got a few more posts, perhaps you'll be more constructive.
I don't like the bar-end mirrors, as I have to stack 3 bikes next to each other and I'd need the bike to be about 6ft wide to see behind me, so I've gone for a frame-mounted mirror which looks under the saddle.
I'm not sure what luggage you are looking at for your LHT but I've got a Bike-Eye on my Secteur and Tricross and it works fine on them with either a tail pack or a seat post mounted rack. I have used it with a Large Topeak Wedge Pack on both bikes and a Topeak MTX rack with Trunk Bag. If you look at this image from the Bike-Eye site, you can see that there's a fair bit of room between the saddle and the mirror's sight-line, but it's possible that luggage would block the view.

Bike Eye don't recommend their mirror for bikes with racks and panniers, I think. I tried one on my Giant FCR, which has a rack fitted, and found it just too confusing an image to be useful - in order to separate the rack and frame and rearview, I had to look into it for some time - at risk of running into a lamp post ahead...
It was a bit better in a rural situation, where the view is simpler, but in the city, there was just too much going on. Maybe my reactions aren't fast, but I'm quite used to using rearview mirrors in all sorts of vehicles and on my trike, so it's not that I find mirrors tricky generally.
I don't have mirrors on my uprights. My current trike set up is one of these, one the left, with the jubilee clip fitting:

I sometimes knock one or the other going through narrow gates, and they are easy enough to twist back - the Mirrycle is perhaps a touch more robust.
I'm going to upgrade to have two of the Mirrycle type, because it's just a bit bigger and clearer to see in, and less wobbly.
