i currently have a specialized dolce, i love the bike but my problem is this, my husband could not ride his road bike for medical reasons so he has purchased a recumbent ice trike adventure. this bike is well suited to all terrain but is most enjoyable for my husband off road on cycle routes, forest trails etc. here is the problem as my bike is not built for this terrain. i would like some ideas on what sort of bike to go for as i can only afford one bike i would have to sell the specialized to fund the new bike. not sure about cyclo cross or if you can get a womens specific cylo cross. or mountain bike or hybrid. or what to look for with the spec of these bikes. any advice would be greatly appreciated

So, you love your current bike, have you thought about a different husband?

Seems to make the most sense.

Maybe look at the Specialized Ariel, a kind of chunky hybrid that is less rugged than an MTB but will go on roads happily (the Sport and above models have lock out forks). I was going to get one before I discovered that even the XL was too small and I ended up with the bloke's version (Crosstrail). I got it as I was nervous getting back on a bike after a crash and it was good and solid with nice fat tyres but not an MTB

You might be able to get a 2010 model on sale depending on what size you need, e.g. http://www.ukcyclest...sport-2010.html

or the 2011 http://www.pearsoncy...l-Sport-Disc-S/

Definitely worth a look.

I now have a Sirrus (not dissimilar to the Dolce) to go with the Crosstrail, for when I want more speed. You could always put less rugged tyres on the Ariel (while unfortunately I don't think you can put more rugged rubber on a Dolce).

Otherwise, Marin bikes always look to be good in betweeners to my eyes

Erm, have had 2 knee surgeries as a result and may need another, plus loads of physio. The rest of my injuries healed ok though and the bike was fine (apart from a broken front light)

Have fun looking, I love bike shopping

the budget only had room for one ice but would be nice, even the dog loves it sitting on husbands lap watching the world go by
Have you thought about buying second hand?

Smiths Cycles at 3 New Road Kidderminster is the nearest dealer to you. However, if you fancy a trip to D Tek, Little Thetford, near Cambridge, you would have a choice of trikes to baffle anyone. I have no connection with any company, but Mrs A bought a beautiful as new ICE T from D Tek. Kevin is a superb guy to deal with.
