I am your Father
After avoiding or really refusing to be part of Facebook or twitter I finally succumb to twitter last week.

I registered via my mobile as a rarely have use of or time for a a PC or laptop session.

This auto directed me to subscribe to Gmail which I wasn't too chuffed about.

I selected my username & password & all good, 2 tweets towards my Rugby Club to wish them well & let a mate know I was now part of the twitterarti & bosh I'm in.

3 days later I try to tweet & nothing, I have a padlock sign attached to my page. What's this ?

I didn't forget my password or username & sent only a nice tweet, no offensive stuff.

Anyone a twitter expert ? Got any ideas ?

Help much appreciated.

It means you have a protected account and only people who follow you can see a certain amount of your details and tweets. https://support.twitter.com/articles/14016-about-public-and-protected-tweets

I did in fact select to protect my tweets (hoping to bar any nobbers out there).
That all depends on your proposed use- if you just want your friends/ family/ people you know to hear about your wildest ramblings you carry on- however if you decide to take part in a charity bike ride to raise money for your local rugby club and want your local rugby club to retweet your justgiving page etc. to all it's followers so they can pledge their support to you then they can't- your tweet is too safe. Just a thought.

A comedian, Frankie Boyle I believe, pointed out that unless you're tweeting launch codes for nuclear warheads, there's really no need to have a protected Twitter account.
