Not sure if this should be in the Electric Cafe or not but it's more some help with the return of goods than a PC fault so I'll post it here.

I bought a PC online recently and returned it with a fault (an issue with intermittent high CPU usage) within 7 days of delivery. It was returned to me supposedly fixed but I noticed that the front USB ports weren't working and discovered that they hadn't been reconnected to the motherboard. When I reconnected the USB cable, the problem with the high CPU usage has returned, so I am assuming it's probably a faulty motherboard and not faulty RAM which they had indicated was the problem. The thought has also crossed my mind that they knew this and deliberately left it disconnected, but that's possibly just my suspicious nature! They must have known I'd notice the front USB ports weren't working at some point after all.

My question is, am I now within my rights to say I want to return the PC for a full refund, even if they push me to try and just repair/replace it again? Also, they paid the original return delivery costs because it was within the first 7 days of purchase, should they cover the cost of returning the PC a second time?

Yes, IMO. To have the PC returned to you with further faults entitles you to assume that the suppliers are incapable of providing an adequate product, so you can reject it. Do that straight away, though.

If you get any grief, take it up with your credit card issuer. You did buy it with a credit card, I hope?

Ta for that ASC1951. It's been returned to me with the same fault not another one, they just didn't (or can't) fix it properly, and that's what has put me off letting them just try and fix it again, but I'm worried that's what they will want to do.

I did pay by credit card, so they will be able to help with a refund should I have have problems with the seller?

Usually, yes. When you buy something with a credit card, strictly speaking the card issuer buys it from the retailer and you buy it from the issuer.

Check the terms with your own issuer, but years ago I got full reimbursement from LloydsTSB Visa in very similar circumstances. Once they had satisfied themselves that it was genuine, they couldn't have been more helpful.
