Help with Choosing a new Bike Tourer/Tricross/Road

Hi all,

New member, don't know why I haven't been on here before. To cut a long story short I've been involved in a road traffic accident and my beloved Dawes Horizon Tourer of 14 years is all but spare parts.

I have looked at similar replacements in the Dawes Galaxy Range, but seen as they are designed to carry far heavier loads than I ever intend or have carried I was wondering if I could get away with something lighter. I would still like to be able to carry rear panniers for commuting and days out, as well as mudguards and have the capability to go off road on well surfaced trails occasionally. The Specialized Tricross seems to fit the bill and gets good reviews, but after so long attached to one bike I don't really know where to start so I'm looking forward to any advice I may get off this forum. Budget of up to around £600.

Have a look at the Genesis Equilbrium 00, might be able to find a 2014 model for around the budget. You'll need P clips to fit the rack but perfectly doable. Will happily take 25mm tyres and full mudguards

The Galaxy won't be that much heavier, a kilo maybe a kilo and a half tops, ride much nicer as well.

A Genesis would be good if it fits the budget. Another steel frame machine you could consider is this http://www.konaworld.com/honky_tonk.cfm stupid name but a good bike. Again, you might need to go for last years to suit budget. Has fittings for rack and uses 28c tyres.
