Here comes winter, this one is going to hurt...

We are expecting 10 cm of snow and temperatures of -20 C (with wind chill). The snow will stick around till late March early April. I almost had my first fall of the winter season yesterday, I ran into a bit of black ice, but clipped out just in time.

But for all the cold and snow that I deal with I think the people who ride in winter rain have it worse than I.

Frightened the life out of as i thought you were posting about the long term UK weather forecast there for a minute, nearly fell off me chair, snow till around late April, JESUS !!!!!

Agree - Canada is another level

For uk, just fitted my schwalbe marathon winters as this morning at minus 3 was tricky on the slicks ( 14.5 miles north of Inverness). Tomorrow should work.

Which side of Canada are you on? Got to be honest, snow on the ground stops my cycling commute. Not so much that I worry about sliding, more about worrying about cars sliding....

I agree with Hennbell. It can get cold here but, i've never felt as cold as out on a rainy windswept moor in northern England.

They are not a magic solution even in the more modest UK snowfalls, as I found out last December.

I take no notice of these type of forecasts weve been having great summers for years its just tabloid bollox imo i judge the weather weekly firstly then daily then out the winda

I an located in the central prairies on the boarder of Alberta and Saskatchewan.


The temperature dose get very low, we usually hit -40 once or twice a year but -20 C is common. With the correct winter gear and thanks to the low relative humidity when cycling you tend not to feel the temperature so much. The snow we get here is very dry, not good at all for making snowballs and it does not get stuck in your wheels. Very different from the snow you get in the UK. I am originally from Glasgow so I am familiar with the biting cold wet winter you get over there. I have studded tires ( tyres ) but as the roads are generally clear i don't normally use them.

There are 3 thing that take me off the bike

1. Temperature below -30 C , causes free wheel to fail and you just cant pedal.
2. freezing rain, worst possible weather.
3. Morning after a big dump of snow, mostly a time issue. Takes to long.

As for the notion of a recumbent trike, I am in,I would love to give it a go.

I have the option of riding in the cold or only getting the bikes out for 6 months a year.
